Аннотация

One of the main functions of Joseon's court paintings was education. Images of significant moments in history were used to help the King and Prince learn from the past and develop a heightened sense of morality and leadership. Another important function of court paintings was to document and preserve the visual culture of the epochs in which they were created. During the Joseon Dynasty, a period whose philosophical foundation rested on Confucian ideals, images played an important role in the effective management of the state. Joseon's court paintings are the pinnacle of contemporary art of their time, created by anonymous court artists to satisfy the tastes of the commissioners while respecting the traditions of the past.
